Town planning OKs zoning for skate park

Lakeview’s planning commission recently approved an amended zoning change request from local entrepreneur and property owner John Cogar.

The decision came down during the commission’s Monday, Aug. 9, meeting.

Cogar’s amended zoning change request pertained to three Oregon Valley Land Company blocks.  The zoning change request approved is from residential to highway commercial, and is a scaled-back zoning change request from the commission’s June 14 meeting.

The blocks of land includes property that Lakeview Sanitation is interested in purchasing for the purpose of expanding its current operations, according to the commission’s written decision.

The planning commission previously denied approval of the request, and Cogar’s amended request was forwarded to the commission by the town council shortly thereafter.

Planning commissioners Bob Kings, Doug Troutman, Robert Wing and Bev Cannon voted in favor of the amended zoning change request, while commissioners Dennis Mooney and DeNae Simms voted in opposition.

The commission also approved the Lake County Skate Park Association’s site design review, conditional land use permit application and variance request for a proposed recreational skateboarding park facility.

Conditions of the decision include mandating that the park area and associated improvement will be encompassed in the lease agreement. The association will submit a landscape plan for the commission’s approval, along with submission of bicycle parking compliance evidence and installation of sanitation facilities. The skate park association will also obtain a town sign permit.
