Incumbent Warren files for full councilor term
Lakeview Town Councilor Mike Warren confirmed that he has filed to run for his first full four-year term.
Warren was appointed to the council in January 2009 to fill the vacancy left by Mike Patrick, who was elected to serve as mayor after former mayor Rick Watson vacated his position in mid-2008.
Warren said that he decided to continue in this role as a public servant because he’s enjoyed the experience thus far and wants to continue to contribute.
“I’ve enjoyed serving on the town council and want to continue to serve the public here in Lakeview,” he said.
Warren said he has a particular interest in continuing the development of local resources given the range of projects the town is currently working toward developing. The biomass plant and geothermal heating district are examples of current significant projects in development, he said.
Economic development is another area of interest for Warren, who serves as the council’s liaison to the South Central Oregon Economic Development District (SCOEDD) as well as the liaison for Warner Creek Correctional Facility (WCCF).
A resident of Lakeview since 2003, Warren said that after discovering the area in 1997, he knew that he wanted to live in the rural Lake County setting. He lives here with his wife of 25 years, Pamela.
“I spent a lot of time camping and visiting, and it was in 1997 that I decided this was where I wanted to call home,” he said. “The last seven years have been great, and I hope to multiply that multiple fold (in years).”
Warren is no stranger to public communications, as he has owned a number of radio stations in multiple states through the years, including KLCR 95.3 FM, which he operates in Lakeview.
In the last year and eight months, Warren said that he has gained experience with the role and function of public government. Not altogether unfamiliar with the process, Warren has invested considerable time through the years as a radio broadcaster in covering such meetings.
“I pretty well knew there was a lot more behind-the-scenes involvement,” he said. “If Lakeview weren’t already such a great place, I don’t think I could do much to steer it down the right course.”
