As it turned out, all was in the family.
The Scramble competition (nine holes each day, two-person entry, both play the hole, with best shot being taken) witnessed Caan Zarosinski and Rick Grbavac taking the prize with a 69, ahead of Bill and Don W. Zarosinski (71), and the third-place Ken Capps and Phil Israel (76).
Caan is related to his partner via Grbavac being married into the Zarosinski clan.
The 36-hole combined tournaments gave birth to a unique anomaly:
Both were won by father-son combination.
Gross winners (minus a handicap score) Kevin Samples and Josh Samples shot a combined 218.
“I don’t know what to say, I didn’t play that well, but Josh played really well,” Kevin Samples said. “We played best ball and on Saturday his was usually the best ball. But on Sunday, Josh got off to a rough start on the front nine, but shot really, really, well on the back nine, shooting an even.”
The team of Samples and Samples won $400 for their play.
Finishing second was Gale Plato and Bob Gale, followed by Rob Nichols and Steve Stewart.
The Net winners (Total gross score, minus handicaps) was won by Terry Butler and Jeremy Butler with a 205.
It was the team’s second consecutive title.
“It feels good, its good to play with my son and if we win we win,” Terry Butler said. “We’ve won two years in a row, it feels more special golfing with Jeremy and we will be back next year.”
