LHS cross country to state

Kaley Schneider placed first in the 3A/2A/1A District Championships and the Southern Oregon Regional Cross Country Championships and earned a spot in the cross country state championships.

Lakeview High School (LHS) cross country competed in its final races before the state championships on Thursday, April 1, and Saturday, April 3, with Kaley Schneider earning a place in the state championships on Saturday, April 10.

Schneider continued to dominate the field in the 3A/2A/1A District Championships placing first with a time of 20:46 easily outpacing her closest opponent from Bandon by about 30 seconds. The other Lakeview runner on the girls side was Abi Carter who finished 17th with a time of 24:00.

On the boys side Luis Villalobos led the Honkers with a time of 21:00 and placing 21st overall. Daniel Murua finished with a time of 21:13 and placed 23rd overall.

Next up was the Southern Oregon Regional Championships, with a place in the state championships on the line. The event featured the best cross country athletes from schools across southern Oregon, including schools the LHS team would not normally run against. Only those who qualified through the various events and district championships could run in the regional championship.

Schneider dominated the field once again, leaving everyone in the dust with a time of 20:44. Her consistent first place finishes qualified her for the state championships. Carter was 13th overall with a time of 23:50.

No one from the boys side qualified for the state championship. But Villalobos set the pace for the Honkers finishing 25th overall in a very tough field with a time of 20:19. Murua was not far behind finishing 28th overall with a time of 20:47.
