It is time to let your geek flag fly, don your favorite cosplay costume, and revel in nerdy nostalgia when the Klamath Falls Downtown Library hosts its sixth annual Klamath Comic Con.
The event is free to attend, taking place on Saturday, Oct. 26 from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The event takes over the library for the day, with what has become a beloved all-welcoming community event with a little something for everybody.
Every year the Klamath Comic Con grows larger, encompassing every corner of the library building with games, activities, vendors, featured speakers, and more. One of the more popular additions from the 2018 Comic Con returns bigger than before, with an entire room dedicated to retro video games as a veritable interactive museum for people to play all day – from the earliest days of Pong to present day video game systems.
The Comic Con cosplay contest will continue, with gift card prizes to the best dressed attendees based on judges vote. Dress as a favorite superhero, comic book character, familiar pop culture figure, or get creative with Halloween costumes. All who enter the cosplay contest will receive a free comic book, and winners will receive gift cards in different age categories to JOANN Fabrics and Crafts.
A variety of vendors will have toys, comics, video games and collectibles for sale, and various stations will offer a variety of giveaways, competitions, and activities. Returning will be members of Lemon Brick Road Studios, a collective of students who in collaboration with the library have developed their own comic book series, who will offer a workshop in honor of “Inktober” leading speed run drawing challenges for all ages.
This year’s Comic Con promises to be more family-friendly with an expansion of carnival-style games for little kids and face-painting, and a larger board game area challenging young and old with games from novice games to expansive miniature world explorations. Also returning will be Star Wars cosplayers from Star Wars Oregon.
Last year’s Klamath Comic Con drew almost 1,500 people to the downtown library, the single-largest crowd to attend the Klamath Library in a single day during business hours. The event coincides with Scarecrow Row – a downtown Klamath Falls outdoor event that encourages each local business to decorate scarecrows along Main Street. Food trucks will also be available.
