Lakeview’s Lady Honkers have punched their ticket to the state semi-finals.
On Friday, May 24, the Lady Honkers traveled to Central Linn looking to keep their momentum going.
Patient hitting, taking advantage of errors and aggressive base running, netted Lakeview three runs in the top of the first inning, as Zoe Suba drew a one out walk, Carmelina Arredondo reached on an error and back-to- back walks from Cara Albertson and Shelby Davidson brought in the games first run. Alyson Yates reached on Central Linn’s second error of the day scoring another run and Chloe Harmon pushed the lead to 3-0 on another groundout.
Central Linn got two runs back in the bottom of the first on a two out two RBI single from Brianna Beauchamp to pull within 3-2.
In the top of the fourth inning, Lakeview took advantage of three more errors from Central Linn, as Harmon scored on a fielding error as Lakeview took a 4-2 lead. Central Linn wasn’t going away, as a bases loaded run pulled them back within one run.
The Lady Honkers broke the game open in the top of the fifth on two out, two RBI double from Harmon to extend the Lady Honker lead to 6-3. In the top of the seventh, a bunt from Yates turned into a two run error for the Lady Honkers, followed by an RBI double from Caley Creager as Lakeview led 9-3. A two run homer in the bottom of the seventh pulled Central Linn within 9-5, but Lakeview shut the door on a rally, winning 9-5.
Harmon led the way with three RBI’s, while Yates threw another complete game, giving up just five hits while striking out 11.
On Wednesday, May 22, the Lady Honkers continued their tour of the state, traveling to face Weston-McEwen.
The game was a pitchers duel until the third inning, as Harley Dick and Sierra Soder reached base and came around to score on a two RBI triple from Arredondo, who scored on a single from Albertson as Lakeview led 3-0. In the top of the seventh, Lakeview padded their lead as Albertson hit an RBI double, scoring Arredondo to make it 4-0. A throwing error pushed the lead to 5-0 and the Lady Honker defense shut the door, as they won 5-0. Harmon and Arredondo each had three hits, while Arredondo and Albertson each drove in a pair of runs. Yates threw a complete game shut out on the mound, giving up just six hits, while walking two and striking out nine.
Lakeview traveled to take on North Douglas on Tuesday, May 28. North Douglas was coming off a win against Grant Union, who was the No. 1 team in the state.
