Check presentation

Teresa Decker and Debe Lightle present a $5,000 check to Camp Cottonwood board member Carl Tracy to help with the fixing up of Camp Cottonwood cabins.

Debe Lightle, Soroptimist vice-president and Programs of Service chair, recently announced Camp Cottonwood Inc. as the recipient of $5,000 and presented Carl Tracy, board member, with a check.  Coupled with a $10,000 donation from the local Lions Club, this money will be used to replace original rock and beam foundations of several cabins and the administration office.  At the completion of this project, all buildings at the camp will have concrete foundations.  Also, handicapped ramps will be installed in some buildings, including the nurse’s office.

Other 2018 – 2019 Programs of Service monies were dispersed to scholarships (Live Your Dream, Vo-Tech, and Lakeview Soroptimist) and to support Girls State attendees.  Recent projects that the local Soroptimist club has supported are the Alger Theater, Run, Girls, Run, AD Hay playground, Dolly Parton Imaginative Library, Stop the Bleed, Healthy Families, and the children’s room at the Lake County Library main branch.  The group has raised funds throughout the years with events such as Cow Pie Bingo, Oktoberfest, a Christmas luncheon, the shoe drive and the Irish Days dinners.

All monies raised locally are investments in projects benefitting the Lakeview community;  “The money we raise here stays here.”
