Albertson places second in first ski match of the season

Lakeview’s 2019 ski team features Reed Christensen, l-r, Annette Harlan, Ty Whitman, coach Matt Harlan and Cara Albertson.

Lakeview’s ski team kicked off their season as they traveled to Mt. Bachelor on Saturday, Jan. 5 for the Lava Bear Ice Breaker .

The ski team doubled in size from a year ago, as Reed Christensen and Annette Harlan join returning skiiers Ty Whitman and Cara Albertson.

Albertson picked up right where she left off from a year ago, taking second place out of 62 girls. She did both her runs in 1:09 and 1:10 for a total time of 2:20. Harlan placed 36th completing her runs down the slopes in time of 1:28 and 1:33. Competition was fierce for the girls, with several of the girls finishing within mere seconds of one another.

On the boys side, it was much of the same story, with several of the skiiers placing within seconds of one another. Ty Whitman led the boys team with a 39th place finish, finishing with a combined time of 2:40, competing both his runs in 1:17 and 1:22. Whitman was only 30 seconds off the first place finish. Reed Christensen placed 51st, with times of 1:26 and 1:28 for a total time of 2:54.

The ski team will be back at Mt. Bachelor this weekend, Jan. 12 as they take part in the Summit Carnival hosted by Summit High School.
