On Saturday, Oct. 31, from 3-5 p.m. the Lakeview Elks Lodge is moving its annual trunk or treat event from inside the lodge to the Elks parking lot in response to COVID restrictions.
Lakeview Elks Lodge Exalted Ruler Briana McClain said that the Elks Lodge was close to potentially canceling the annual event due to the restrictions on how many people could be inside a building at any one time. But an Elks member heard about another event that moved outside to hand out candy, and the decision was made to make it a true trunk or treat with people handing out candy from the trunk of their cars to trick or treaters.
It will not only be Elks members handing out candy from their cars. Members of the community are invited to contact McClain to make a reservation so that she knows how many people will be showing up to hand out candy. Elks Club will be handing out candy to the children as well on Halloween night.
People giving out treats are encouraged, but not required, to dress up and decorate their vehicles.
McClain said that in the past for the indoor candy event, the Elks Lodge has had a good turnout, and is hopeful that they will have a good turnout this year. Many other trunk or treat events had been canceled, or no decision has been made about them as of press time.
“It is a way to bring some normalcy to the children and to let kids be kids,” said McClain.
The Lakeview Elks Lodge is located at 323 N. F St., Lakeview.
