Perfect week for Lady Honker Softball

Lakeview’s Carmelina Arredondo gets onto third base standing up in game one of a double header last Saturday against Rogue River. Arredondo had a huge series, recording four RBI’s including a three-run homerun in the Lady Honker sweep.

Five games, five wins last week for the Lakeview Lady Honker softball team.

The Lady Honkers faced league foe Rogue River on Saturday, May 4. Using their aggressive approach on the base paths and being patient at the plate, Lakeview scored early and often in this one. Shelby Davidson got the scoring started, as she knocked a 2 RBI triple to the right field fence in the third inning and Carmelina Arredondo followed with an RBI triple of her own to put the Lady Honkers up 3-0 early. Errors by Rogue River and aggressive base running from the Lady Honkers, allowed Lakeview to blow the game open as Lakeview took game one easily 10-0 in a run ruled contest. Every Lady Honker batter got on base at least once in this game. Alyson Yates showed why she is the ace of the staff as she reached double digits in strikeouts once again, as she threw all five innings, changing up her speeds well and pounding the strike zone all game long.

Arredondo continued her dominance in game two, as she hit a three run home run in the games fifth inning to help Lakeview get the 8-4 victory to cap off a dominant week as they kept pace with the division leaders.

Both those wins came on the heels of a sweep of league rival Butte Falls on Thursday, May 2. Lakeview started the week with a thrilling 14-8 victory over Phoenix on Monday, April 29.

With just under a week to play, Lakeview currently sits in fourth place, just two games back of third place team Bonanza. The top three teams will advance to the league playoffs. Lakeview traveled to Bonanza on Tuesday, May 7 and will play their final home game of the season on Friday, May 10 as they take on Burns. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. at the softball fields. They’ll finish out the season on Monday, May 13 as they’ll travel to face Illinois Valley.
