VISTA examines pandemic's effect on Lake County

Clara Morris

Lakeview has a new AmeriCorps VISTA, Clara Morris, who started her volunteer position in the area on Monday, Aug. 31. As a VISTA — Volunteer in Service to America — Morris will focus on how COVID has affected Lake County and people’s ability to access resources.

Morris moved to Lakeview from St. Louis, Mo. after applying for the VISTA position. She had been looking to apply with a spot within AmeriCorps and said she liked that the Lakeview opportunity involved working within the larger context of public health.

She is working alongside the Oregon Health Authority and the Lake Health District (LHD) to execute her project, which will also involve talking to stakeholders about how COVID has affected the area. Morris will help build a report on how Lake County can better respond to disasters in the future, but will also examine the County’s strengths in its response to the pandemic.

Specifically, the report will provide suggestions for LHD and EMS to respond to low income residents’ needs in crisis.
