1-08 Warner Canyon

Weekly ski school lessons will commence on Saturday, Jan. 11 and continue each Saturday at Warner Canyon through February.

Ski season is now in full swing, and for those timid to take to the slopes to join in the fun, help is on the way with the start of ski school at Warner Canyon Ski Area.

Ski school, operated by the all-volunteer Snow Sports Foundation, takes place from Saturday, Jan. 11 through Saturday, Feb. 15, with weekly sessions on Saturdays to learn the basics of safety and fun for downhill skiers and snowboarders. The programs vary from first-timers to beginners and intermediate, intended for participants from 5-18 years old.

Ski school is split between a six-week course to develop skills, and two three-week “never-ever” ski school classes that teach the basics for those who have never ventured out onto the snow. Classes will take place from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m.

A $20 registration fee is required to participate in ski school’s six-week course. There is no registration fee for the three-week never-ever courses. Registration does not include the cost of ski lift passes or Sno-Park passes – both of which can be purchased at the Warner Canyon Ski Area Lodge, and are required to park and ski.

Instructors are currently being sought for ski school. Instructors receive a free lift ticket for their participation in the program. If interested in instructing contact Barry Shullanberger at 541-947-4625.

Ski school’s culmination coincides with the annual SnoFest – a fun-filled day of competitive ski races followed by a community dinner, auction, and an evening torchlight parade down the mountain.

Warner Canyon is located approximately 10 miles northeast of Lakeview on Hwy 140, and is Lake County’s lone recreational downhill ski and snowboard facility. The mountain will remain open on weekends typically from December through March, or as long as snow conditions allow. Warner Canyon is a single-chair lift facility with over 20 downhill runs of varying difficulty, and boasts among the lowest lift ticket rates in the entire state. Passes are available as half-day, full-day, or season. There are also corporate and family passes available.
