Barbara Jones, 88, a resident of Lakeview for 59 years, passed away in Albany Sunday evening, March 3, 2019.

Barbara was born Aug. 11, 1930 to Eugene and Glean Yates in Colchester, Vt.   After graduating from Essex Junction High School in 1949, she then attended Thompson Training School for Practical Nurses (now known as the Vermont Technical College) in Brattleboro, Vt.

Following her certification as a Licensed Practical Nurse she enlisted in the United States Navy, and became a staff nurse at Bethesda Naval Hospital (now known as The Walter Reed National Military Medical Center) near Washington D.C.

It was while stationed in Washington D.C. she met a Navy sailor from Lakeview. They  married on Feb. 21, 1954 with a Navy Chaplain presiding.  They moved to Lakeview in December 1956, where her husband, Bob Jones started his 38-year-career as an electrician for Lakeview Building Material and later Start’s Electric.

Barbara resumed her nursing career for a few years in the late 1960s and early 1970s at Lake District Hospital. She was an active member of First Baptist Church for several years and later First Presbyterian Church.

She was preceded in death by:  husband, Lester R. (Bob) Jones; her parents; and  two older brothers, Clifton and Romaine.

She is survived by:  son and daughter-in-law, David and Kaye Jones of Jefferson;  daughter and son-in-law, Pam and Shawn Nicholson of Chiloquin;  three grandchildren, Deborah Shaffer of Parker, Colo., Matthew Jones of Salem, and Andrew Jones of Oregon City; 10 great-grandchildren; and was looking forward to her first great-great-grandchild in May.

Memorial service will be held Friday, April 19 at the First Presbyterian Church at 619 S. 1st St. with internment to follow at Sunset Park Cemetery. There will be a community potluck following the committal at the church.
