John Alvin Wood

John Alvin Wood, 88, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2019 at Lakeview Gardens Long Term Care in Lakeview.

He was born on Oct. 28, 1930, in Lakeview to Thedore and Beulah (Brammer) Wood. John was in the National Guard while in high school and graduated in 1949 from Lakeview High School.

In 1951 he married Bernice Nelson and they had two daughters. John worked in retail stores, a grocery store, with his father in their plumbing shop and for the Fremont National Forest at the Dairy Creek Guard Station. He was an avid rockhound and loved fishing. He spent several years in Paisley. He considered Paisley his home and made many friends there. His family is very grateful to so many Paisley residents for all they did to help and look after him.

John was preceded in death by: his parents; sister; Barbara Welp; three nephews; and one niece.

He is survived by: daughter, Cynthia Cole; daughter and son-in-law, Jeannie and Mike Wickman; sister, Janet Jarrett; grandson and grand-daughter-in-law, Dan and Jenny Hamrick; granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Kelly and Jacob Hammond; three great-granddaughters, Bailee and Livvy Hamrick and Leah Hammond,; and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.

By John’s request there will be no services. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Paisley Disaster Unit, PO Box 208, Paisley, OR 97636, Paisley Fire Department, or to a charity of the donor’s choice

Desert Rose Funeral Chapel has charge of the arrangements.
