John "Johnny" Collins

John Collins, 92, of Shady Cove, passed away Monday, Dec. 7, 2020 in Medford. There is an expression in Irish 'Ní bheidh a leithéid ann arís' translates as ' his likes will not be around again'.

He was born June 24, 1928 in Banteer, County Cork Ireland, to Norah Walsh and Daniel Collins. As a young man, he completed an apprentice program for mechanics at Colemans Garage in Millstreet, County Cork, Ireland. He left for the United States in January 1950 crossing the Atlantic on a ship, The America. He arrived at Ellis Island to begin his new adventures which eventually took him to Plush. While working in Plush, he found his greatest treasure, Bridget Griffin. They were married in 1954 in Redmond. John was never afraid of hard work. He was very proud of being a mechanic at Goose Lake Timber Company. Soon thereafter he and his brother Dan started Collins Motors.

Never a man to stay in one place long, he started a construction company that allowed him to travel the Northwest. He built fences, trails, cleared for power lines and dams. John fell in love with the Rogue Valley when he worked on the Lost Creek Lake in Trail. He and his wife Bridget brought their Irish hospitality to the community while running the Rogue River RV Park in Shady Cove. In his retirement, he became a real estate developer.

John was preceded in death by: his wife, Bridget; brothers, Dan, Mike and Timmy; and a sister Kitty.
