Kevin Charles Matchett
Kevin Charles Matchett, 67, of Jacksonville passed away unexpectedly while recovering from spinal surgery on Thursday, Oct. 25, 2018 at OHSU in Portland.
Kevin was born on March 28, 1951 in Tacoma, Wash. He grew up in Lakeview and graduated from Lakeview High School in 1969. He was a student at Oregon State University and later attended Oregon Institute of Technology and was on the Dean’s list.
Kevin married Mary Willison on Aug. 26, 1989. Mary passed away in 2003.
Kevin spent over 20 years as a lending manager and officer in Auto Finance Banking at US Bank and later with WFS Financial. He was well-liked and known by all the local car dealerships. He retired in January of 2018.
Kevin was a voracious reader who loved historical fiction and actual history. He was also an excellent writer and had a humorous way with words, even in his texts! He enjoyed caring for his property and entertaining. He was an excellent party host, and had many types such as barbecues, Superbowl, Oregon Civil War, birthday, holiday, and more. He loved cars, antique and otherwise.
Kevin had a great sense of humor and enjoyed a good laugh. He was always in a good mood, and made people happy just to be around him. He loved surprising everybody with little gifts which demonstrated a thoughtful and time consuming process of picking them out. He often took pictures with his Polaroid camera, and gave many instant prints to his mother. Each postage stamped envelope that he sent to his mom had a unique return address written by hand such as “Her most devoted son, Kevin” or “Her favorite son.” Kevin’s continual kind, generous and good nature endeared him to everybody who knew him.
Kevin was preceded in death by: wife, Mary; father, Roy; and aunt, Delores.
Kevin will be sadly missed and is survived by: mother, Jeanne Matchett of Klamath Falls; stepchildren, Olivia of Shady Cove, and Drew and Sadie Willison of White City; brothers and sisters-in-law, Lee and Cheryl Matchett and Ron Janell Matchett of Klamath Falls; grandchild, Abby; nephews and nieces, Kristina, Derek and Jenna Matchett, Farrah Hanson, Stina and Jason Turner, Amy and Drew Snyder, Joel and Sarah Matchett, Lacey and Colby Hansen, Sarah Matchett, Mary Matchett; four great-nephews; and eight great-nieces.
To honor Kevin, a Celebration of Life service will be held in Medford at Memory Gardens, 1395 Arnold Lane on Friday, Nov. 9 at 2:00 p.m.
