Richard “Dick” Stubbs, 87, passed away at the Lakeview Gardens in the early morning on Sunday, May 26, 2019.

Richard was born in Parowan, Utah on Sept. 6, 1931 to Walter and Lois Stubbs.  He joined a family of six sisters and two brothers. He was kept busy in his youth by working on his family’s very large sheep ranch. In December of 1948, Richard joined the US Navy. He served aboard the heavy cruiser USS Helena during the Korean conflict.

On Dec. 27, 1951 Richard married Maurine Evans, whom he rejoiced in telling everyone, he had known since she was two years old. Richard then returned to finish his tour in the Navy and was honorably discharged in November 1952. He then moved to Lakeview to join his wife and son. Richard found work in the wood products industry that lasted until his retirement. Richard and his wife had two daughters to complete their family.

After his retirement Richard and Maurine moved to Denio, Nev., where they lived until health problems brought them back to Lakeview in 2018.

Richard loved hunting and fishing, his family, friends too numerous to count, and his hunting dogs.

He had hunted every ridge and fished every pond for hundreds of miles around and even bagged a moose in Canada. He entertained everyone with his exceptional personality and endless stories.

Richard was preceded in death by:  his parents, brothers, sisters and great-granddaughter Aurora.

He is survived by: his wife of 67 years, Maurine; son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Donna Stubbs; daughters, Marta Hudson and Ronna Starr; grandchildren, Dustin and Jeri Stubbs, Isaac and Bethany Wheeler, Jessie Jones, Michelle and Dan Zach Moore,  Charlotte and Dylan Pegoraro and Whitney Hudson-Waterman; and 15 great-grandchildren.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Contributions may be made to VFW Post 4070, P.O. Box 134, Lakeview, Or 97630 or donors choice.

Desert Rose Funeral Chapel had charge of the arrangements.
