William T. Dungan

William “Bill” T. Dungan, 82, passed away on Thursday, Oct. 31, 2019 in Lakeview.

He was born in Lakeview on April 30, 1937 to Thomas Winafred and Esther (Wilson) Dungan Welch. He was a graduate of Lakeview High School class of 1955. Dungan was a member of the rodeo team as a bareback and bull rider. After graduation he attended Oregon Technical Institute and COS majoring in electrical engineering. He was married for 46 years to Joan Dungan-Van Hooser.

Bill was a district lineman for Pacific Power & Light/Pacificorp from 1958-1998 and was a member of the IBEW, Union No. 659 for 61 years. He was an EMT, auctioneer, vice president of the Oregon Jaycees, Booster Club vice president for Dunsmuir High School, Chairman of the Industry Commission and citizen of the year in Dunsmuir, Calif. Bill was also president of the Chamber of Commerce, volunteer fireman, president of the Rotary Club and lineman for the Hells Gate Dam project. He was a member of the Rooster Club, a commercial fisherman, chairman of the City Planning Commission and Citizen Commission, and was on the Jackson Planning Commission in Rogue River. Bill was nominated for the Who’s Who in the West. He belonged to the NRA. In Lakeview, Bill was a member of the Benevolent Order of the Elks #1536 and Fraternal Order of the Eagles Aerie 2183.

Bill put on more than 50 community open pit barbecues, feeding over 10,000 people from 1969 to 2019.

Bill was preceded in death by: his parents; and brother, Phillip Dungan.

Bill is survived by: son, Duane Dungannon; daughters, Julie Dungan Roop and Susan Avon Dungan; stepchildren, Bill and Margo Jewell and Pam Luxton; sister, Sharon Dungan Baumgardner; grandchildren, Belinda Lousignont, Jason Childers, Nicki Childers, Sheldon Rhoden, Ashley Chytka, John Roop, James Roop, Kassandra Smith, Desiree DeRoche’, Tyler Dungannon, Josh Dungannon, Michala Roberts, Kelly Jewell, David Jewell, Lindsey Luxton, Travis Luxton and Ashton Williams; many great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.

A memorial service for Bill Dungan will be held on Saturday, Nov. 23 at 5 p.m. at the Lakeview Eagle’s Lodge, 27 So. E St.
