All three Lake County schools traveled to Bend on Friday to compete in the Oxford Classic cross country meet.
Paisley and North Lake both competed in the junior varsity 5,000-meter races, while Lakeview ran in the varsity event, with all races held at Drake Park. Runners from 27 different schools competed at the Oxford Classic.
In the women’s junior varsity 5,000-meter, North Lake’s lone female runner had the best overall finish of the day for Lake schools. Junior Judah Koehler completed the course in 22:13.11, second place overall. The time was 13 seconds faster than her previous week’s run at the Outback XC Invitational, and more than two minutes faster than the opening meet of the season.
In the women’s varsity race junior Kaley Schneider once again placed in the top-20, finishing 19th overall with a time of 20:30.53. Sophomore Scarlett Taylor was next to cross the line, 102nd overall at 24:49.41. Sophomore Alexis McBain placed 110th (26:31.63) and junior Samantha Hooper finished 117th at 34:58.38. The Honkers’ collective score of 423 points placed Lakeview as a team 16th out of 17 schools qualifying in team competition.
In the men’s junior varsity 5,000-meter the big surprise was Paisley junior Devin Dickie, who set a new personal best tallying a sub-20 minute time for the first time in his career. Dickie’s 19:40.91 placed ninth overall in a field of 119 runners. The other Paisley cross country runner this year, junior Luke Colahan, placed 117th at 29:47.16.
For North Lake junior Trent Tobiasson had the best overall finish in the men’s junior varsity race, placing 24th at 20:28.02. Other Cowboys competing included Corbin Coulter (49th, 21:39.10) and Luke Sanders (119th, 29:58.52).
Lakeview in the men’s varsity 5k was once again led by senior Paul Lindsley, whose 19:16.18 was the best overall time tallied by any Lake County runner – good enough for 83rd place in a packed varsity field featuring 128 athletes. Sophomore Reed Christensen finished 104th (20:00.75), Luis Villalobos followed closely behind at 20:09.75 for 106th place, and sophomore Sonny Gerber was 121st at 21:18.13.

Lakeview meanwhile will be at the Rogue Valley Runners Max King Invitational on Wednesday, and then at the Southern Oregon Invitational on Saturday.
