Paisley student signs athletic scholarship

Paisley Track and Field Head Coach Mark Douglas joins Paisley Senior Mia Milasinovic as she signs her letter of intent to go to Samford University on a track and field scholarship, only the second Paisley student to sign an athletic scholarship to a major university from the high school.

For only the second time in its history, a Paisley High School student was offered an athletic scholarship to a NCAA Division 1 school.

Mia Milasinovic, an exchange student from Montenegro, spent her junior and senior years at Paisley with the goal of getting an athletic scholarship to a university in the United States. Milasinovic, after being courted by several schools, chose Samford University in Birmingham, Ala.

In 2019 Milasinovic was awarded third team all-state in the high jump, in which she set a school record, and second team all-state in the hurdles. Milasinovic chose Samford for a combination of its high academic standards and its track and field program.

Milasinovic is the first Paisley athlete to earn an athletic collegiate scholarship to a major university since Grady O’Connor, who played football at the University of Oregon in the early 1990s.

Milasinovic enters her final year on the Paisley Track and Field team, which has its first meet on Friday, March 20.
