Irish Day parade

Entries are now open for Irish Days parade.

Break out the gold jackets and shirts as the Lake County Chamber of Commerce Irish Days parade is set for Saturday, March 12. People who wish to participate in the parade must return the entry form to the Lake County Chamber of Commerce Office no later than Friday, March 11.

This is the 37th Irish Days Parade and this year the theme is “Rocking Gold.” Entries are encouraged to follow the theme and one of the parade award categories is how well the entries follow the theme.

Parade participants will line up at 10 a.m. on the north side of the Chamber of Commerce Office — at the intersection of north E and 2nd streets in Lakeview. The parade will then begin at 11 a.m. and will proceed north on E street, west on north 4rd street, south on F street, east on south 1st street, and then head north on E street until it ends at the Chamber of Commerce.

The yearly parade is one of the many highlights of the Irish Days weekend, which is held the weekend before St. Patrick’s Day, and celebrates the early Irish settlers and their descendants who call Lake County home. Later in the day is the outhouse races and in the evening is the Irish Days dinner.

The Grand and Wee Leprechaun, yet to be announced, will be the grand marshals and lead the parade through the streets of Lakeview.

Entry forms are available at the Lake County Chamber of Commerce office. People who wish to participate will need to fill out the form and what type of float they will be participating in. Community judges will judge the entries before the parade begins and awards will be handed out later. The criteria used in judging will include — originality, quality, theme and overall impression.
