Maintenance crew

The County maintenance crew completed a recent renovation at the Lake County Museum.

Lake County and Schminck Memorial museums held an Open House on Thursday, May 11. Courthouse employees as well as the public had an opportunity to visit those museums and look at changes made over the past winter.

At Lake County Museum a room once used as a kitchen during the building’s era as a private residence was completely renovated. By tearing out obsolete, but not historical, cabinets and sink, much-needed space was gained. A forgotten window was uncovered adding natural light. The entire room was then repainted and new flooring installed. That room has now been staged to represent a homestead settlement kitchen where often a general store, post office and community gathering place was squeezed into a homesteader’s kitchen.
