Dollar General in CV

Christmas Valley will be getting a Dollar General store similar to the one pictured here in Lakeview. The company has submitted plans and permits have been issued. There has been no word when construction will commence.

A Dollar General store is in the works for Christmas Valley as the Lake County Planning Department processes the final permits needed for the project. As of press time, the company had not responded to the question of when construction will begin.

This will be the second Dollar General store in Lake County; the other is located in Lakeview, and was built in 2016.

In April, Crystal Luce, assistant public relations manager for Dollar General, confirmed that the company was in the due diligence phase for building a new store in Christmas Valley. She did not comment at that time on when the company would be submitting final plans for the proposed store with the Planning Department.

The store will be built along the Christmas Valley Hwy just west of the Chevron; the Chevron and Sagewood Grocery Store are the two main grocery stores currently in the Christmas Valley area. Oregon Country Realty is next door and Sage Mountain Primitives is across the street.

Under plans approved by the Lake County Planning Department, the Dollar General in Christmas Valley would be 10,540 square feet and one of the larger stores in the area that does not sell farm equipment. It will feature approximately 30 parking spaces for customers, with two handicapped parking spots located at the front entrance. The parking lot would be set back 100 feet from the roadway, and a sign would be erected next to the driveway.

Dollar General has stores in 46 states, and mostly focuses on small communities. As of 2019 it had over 17,000 stores. The company is jointly owned by several private equity capital firms.

According to Luce, the store would need approximately 6 – 10 employees. She said the Dollar General Corporation strives to be a positive member of the community and awards grants to literacy programs, schools and libraries through its Dollar General Literacy Foundation.

Each Dollar General store carries approximately 17,000 items across a broad range of categories. People can purchase seasonal items, basic clothing, house wares, stationery, home cleaning supplies, health and beauty products, and food at each location. Each Dollar General store carries many brand name products including: Clorox, Proctor and Gamble, Kimberly-Clark, Unilever, Kellogg’s General Mills, Nabisco, Hanes, Pepsi and Coca-Cola.

As the lot that Dollar General will be building on is already zoned for commercial use by the County, the Lake County Planning Commission does not need to make a decision on the store. The Planning Department has issued the address for the Dollar General store as 86850 Christmas Valley Hwy, Christmas Valley.
