According to a Thursday, Sept. 8 press release from the Town of Lakeview, “The Lakeview Water Treatment Facility project remains on track and within budget.” The release adds, “The Town’s water supply suffers from heightened levels of iron and manganese. The Town has shut off its ‘north well’ because of arsenic levels. The Water Treatment Facility is being constructed to treat the groundwater and provide clean drinking water to the community that meets primary and secondary regulatory water quality criteria.”
The Town on Aug. 16 received its contract documents for the $15 million in funding it has been granted for the water treatment project. The press release explains that the Town will not receive all the money at once, but will be given allotments as steps in the water treatment project are completed.
On Tuesday, Oct. 25, an informational meeting will be held at Town Hall to provide an update on the new Water Treatment Facility. The Town of Lakeview invites and encourages the public to attend and participate in the meeting.
The estimated cost for phase 1 of the project is $831,280. During Phase 1, according to the terms of its contract, the Town, with the assistance of a professional engineer licensed in Oregon, will complete preliminary engineering to evaluate the best alternatives for a water treatment system. The Preliminary Engineering Report will be reviewed and approved by Oregon Health Authority – Drinking Water Services and submitted to Oregon Business Development Department.
The cost of Phase 1 includes design/engineering, legal fees, permitting and regulatory fees, water testing, “water acquisition facility site property acquisition,” and pilot water treatment setup and testing, according to the Town’s press release.
A timeline included in the release shows that the project’s next step — pilot water treatment setup and testing — is slated for November.
The Town states that it intends to keep the community updated on the progress of the Water Treatment Facility project and adds, “If you have questions or concerns regarding the Water Treatment Facility, please attend Town Council meetings and/or call Special Projects Director, Scott Langum at (541) 257-5485.”
