Lakeview Town Council at its Tuesday, July 13, meeting appointed Sandra Wenzel to the empty seat created by Niki Taylor, who moved outside of the Town of Lakeview.
Wenzel has served on the Lakeview Town Council, most recently in 2020 when she lost the election to Shannon Theall and Jay Farmen. Her most recent stint was served after she was appointed to the Town Council after a council member left their position a couple of months after the election. She has served on the Town Council at other times previously and was at one time mayor of Lakeview.
Wenzel will be completing Taylor’s term. Wenzel will hold the seat through at least the 2022 election when Taylor would have been up for re-election. Wenzel does have the opportunity to run for a full term in 2022 if she so chooses.
When Taylor officially signed her letter of resignation that began the process of the Town Council looking at filling her position. Town Hall was accepting letters of interest from people in the community who wish to serve the remainder of Taylor’s term. The Council received four letters from individuals and voted to approve Wenzel.
Wenzel will be sworn in by Lakeview Mayor Ray Turner at a future council meeting. With the approval of Wenzel the Council is now full with five members. In 2022, both Wenzel and Council Member Scott Langum will be up for re-election.
