Alan Cain, 80, passed away Monday, March 28, 2022 at his home on the Westside.
Alan was born in Los Angeles, Calif. on Sept. 3, 1941. When he was 4 years old, he moved with his family to Covina, Calif. and lived on an orange grove. When he was 10, his family moved to Murrieta, Calif. to a 100 acre farm where they raised alfalfa, cattle and registered Berkshire hogs. He went to Murrieta Grammar School, which was a 4 room school, and then Lake Elsinore High School where he participated in sports, especially basketball. He attended Orange Coast College and then Cal Poly Pomona, where he majored in business administration. His first job out of college was for Coldwell Banker in Los Angeles in the loan department.
He met Darlene Rowe at Cal Poly and they married in 1963. They had two daughters, Stacey and Leslie, and were married for 22 years. During that time Alan owned a ranch in Idaho for a period of time and also lived in Klamath Falls selling real estate and ranching in different areas of southern Oregon. After they divorced, he moved to Sacramento, Calif. While living there he met and married Carole Tigner. They lived in Sacramento for 10 years, where Alan sold commercial real estate, then moved to Winnemucca, Nev. There Alan continued in ranching and the real estate business. They were married for 20 years. Alan owned or managed many different ranches over the years in Idaho, Nevada and Oregon. It was a way of life that he loved very much. He moved to Lakeview around 2013. He felt like there was no place more beautiful than his ranch there. He LOVED his cows and his dog Pooch, who was his constant companion.
One of his favorite pastimes was sitting on his deck in Lakeview with a drink in his hand, looking at his view and throwing the tennis ball for Pooch. He was grateful for his thoughtful and helpful neighbors. One of his favorite days every year was branding day at the ranch when the neighbors would come help and then he would BBQ tri tip and beans for all of his helpers, complete, of course, with his favorite drink, a Manhattan, or two, or three.
Another favorite event for Alan was the Lakeview Round-Up, which he attended many times through the years. He loved being able to visit with his friends in the ranching community.
Alan was preceded in death by: his father, Carlington Cain and his mother, Eunice Cain.
He is survived by: daughter and son-in-law, Stacy and David Lowder; daughter, Leslie Price; sister, Connie Cain; grandson, Justin Lowder; granddaughter, Rylee Lowder; nephew and his wife, Jeff and Melissa Roe and their children, Kayla and Karly; and niece and her husband, Stan and Christine Clark and their children Mason and Nora Clark.
Alan will be laid to rest in the Westside Cemetery at 1 p.m. on April 11th, followed by a gathering at his ranch. The family is planning to have a larger celebration of life at some point over the summer.
In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for a donation to The Friends of the Lake County Fair & Round-Up.
