Joseph Anthony Alves, 78, affectionately known as Tony, passed away of natural causes on Friday, June 18, 2021 at his home in Willamina.
Tony was born on Feb. 5, 1943 in San Mateo, Calif. to Gregory James “Jimmy” and Bernice Alves, and grew up in Half Moon Bay, Calif.
Tony married Judy “Jewell” Killitz in Fremont, Calif. where they had three children – Lisa Maya (55), and twins Gregg Alves and Laurie Toney (52). Tony worked for General Motors painting cars for several years, then relocated his family to Lakeview to ranch with his brother, Jimmy. He hauled hay for many years, then took a job with Lake County Road Department where he retired in 2014.
Tony enjoyed roping and riding, and anything a rodeo had to offer. He would often travel around Oregon and Northern California to participate in roping events. Tony was also a car buff and had restored a 1948 Chevy pickup and a matching 1954 horse trailer (Tony always had a fake horse bum and tail hanging out of the trailer!). He would travel to car shows and have the bright cranberry truck and trailer in all the local parades.
You could always count on Tony for a good visit with a strong cup of coffee or a cold Coors Light – he loved to visit. But even more, you could always count on Tony to sweep any pretty lady across the dance floor – he loved dancing! We hope you are dancing your heart out in heaven Tony – you will be missed.
He was the middle of three sons, and was preceded in death by: brother, Jimmy; and his granddaughter, Reagan Alves (14).
Tony is survived by: his brother, Bobby; and many grandchildren, Michael and Isaiah Maya (21 & 20), Delaney Alves (23), Kambry Nash (34), Kyra Duncan (25), and CJ Toney (20).
There will be a Celebration of Life for Tony on Saturday, Sept. 25, 2021 at the Elks Lodge in Lakeview from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. There will be a light dinner and dessert, please bring your stories and memories of Tony.
